Nashville to Las Vegas

For Fall Break, Jeff and I decided to go to the desert for some cooler weather. After the 90s we’ve been having in Nashville, highs of 76 sound great. Our Frontier flight was set to leave at 9PM, so we got to the airport around 7PM. The place was packed with people set for a delayed flight to Florida as well as a flight to London. The gatekeepers had to announce several times for people to clear the hall so the previous plane could deboard. And only then could they board. Apparently, the people didn’t realize the benefit of getting out of the way, because no one moved. It’s like they thought by crowding all together, they could get to Florida faster.

The view from the plane as we flew over Nashville and several other places reminded me alternately of Christmas lights and a dark velvet cloth set with sequins. The parts of the country that are relatively devoid of people broke up the lights, and all I saw was moonlight reflecting on the clouds. I couldn’t enjoy the sights long, though, because the legroom on Frontier is so limited, my bad knee ached so bad I cried silently with it for most of the flight.

When we finally arrived in Las Vegas at around 1AM Nashville time, I wanted nothing more than to stand up. The airport was fairly simple to navigate, and we caught a shuttle to the rental car center. The Thrifty counter was closed, as were many other counters. So the line at the covering counter was extremely long. Jeff is standing in the line now to sign out our car, and I’m sitting in the waiting area guarding the bags and writing this blog. We will drive to our hotel as soon as possible and get to bed. We go to St. George, UT tomorrow.

Update as of 1:30 Nevada time. After Jeff stood in line all that time to sign out the SUV he paid to reserve, we got to the lot, and there was nothing left. The attendant “upgraded” us to a church van with the option of coming back in the morning to trade for a more manageable vehicle. So we hoisted ourselves up in the behemoth and drove through Las Vegas road construction to our hotel where we are now going to sleep.
